Creativity requires the courage to let go of certainties. – Erich Fromm
Hi, Alison here. I am new to sharing about myself but here goes. I am a teacher. I have been as long as I can remember and I love it. I am a patchworker, a crafter, a sewist (what a strange word that is). Even more importantly, I am a mum to the most amazing girl in the world ( oh, does it seem like I am a little biased…well, I am allowed my opinion) and a newer mum to a 1 year old staffy cross husky pup. Well, that has been sooo much more exhausting than 10 years of being a mum to my girl.
I want to have more time to sew and craft and create. In today’s crazy world the only way to do that seems to be to make it part of a habit and share it so I am accountable. So here we are.
I started sewing when I was little, helping my mum make basketball uniforms and doing the little jobs, overlocking (serging) the seams or placing the numbers or cutting out the shapes of the numbers. So I had the basics early and I made clothes a bit in my early 20’s, but then in my second year of teaching I went to a small town and in my efforts to meet people and become part of the town, I joined lots of clubs- the pistol club, the netball club, the basketball club, a reading club and a quilting group. Well, I met lots of different people and I tried lots of new and old skills. But I learned to quilt. And the rest as they say is history. More than 20 years later through busy and quieter sewing times, I am still here addicted to making functional, bright and beautiful things.
So welcome to Sewing Rainbows and I hope some of you choose to join me and keep me accountable for spending time creating and keeping my mind and heart joyful and young.
